Vegan satay is an easy, delicious, and health way to add some protein to your meal. You can choose the tasty tomyam marinade for great east flavor, or choose plain if you like to use your own marinade (barbecue sauce, teriyaki sauce, etc are great choices). It is a whole protein, being made of a combination of chickpeas and wheat gluten. Together these two have all the essential proteins your body needs. It is made in a special way that gives it a shredded type texture, similar to cooked chicken. One pack (6 satay) has more than 3/4 cup of chickpeas in it (but you can’t tell), so it’s a great way to eat more legumes, especially for those who don’t like eating plain chickpeas.
It is precooked, so it just needs to be heated up/cooked in several different ways.
- Preheat the oven to 190 C. Place satay (use a marinade if you chose plain) on a greased pan in the oven (or use nonstick baking paper) and bake for 10 minutes. Flip and bake for 5 more minutes. If you wish you can also brush with oil.
- Brush with oil (and marinade if you chose plain) and heat on an outdoor grill. Grill for about 5-10 minutes or until heated through and browned to your liking.
- Heat a frying pan on the stove. Spread a little oil in the pan. Lightly brush the satay with oil (and marinade if you chose plain) and pan fry until heated through and browned to your liking.
Keep in the fridge for up to a week, or in the freezer for several months. No MSG, all natural ingredients!
